The Heart Behind Our Work

In Cúcuta—a Colombian border city shaped by instability, displacement, and limited opportunity—many children grow up without the consistent support or resources they need to thrive. Yet we believe their circumstances do not define their potential.

Confronted with this reality, we were moved to create Blooms & Root — a nonprofit committed to building safe, nurturing environments where children can flourish. We are now laying the groundwork for a community center in Cúcuta that will provide spiritual formation, education, nutrition, and the steady support every child deserves. And as this model grows, our long-term vision is to expand into other underserved communities across Latin America.

Our conviction is simple: real transformation begins at the foundation — and God is our root. When children are established in His love and surrounded by stable relationships, educational pathways, and nourishment, possibilities open that once felt unreachable.

As a nonprofit in formation, we are committed to honesty and transparency — sharing each step of this journey as we build alongside trusted local partners and supporters who believe every child should have the chance to flourish.

A note from our founder

Ali Roldan, Founder of Blooms & Root

Blooms & Root began as a whisper God placed on my heart when I was a little girl in Venezuela, watching children younger than me sell candy at traffic lights. I desperately wanted to fix their lives, and the longing never left. As a young professional thriving in the U.S., I tried to quiet that ache by supporting many causes, but nothing ever felt like enough.

In 2021, during a mission trip to Cúcuta, Colombia, I met the children God used to call me back to His purpose. What started as compassion became a clear invitation — and I ran from it. For three more years, I kept building a career I loved while God patiently waited for my surrender.

Earlier this year, I finally honored His invitation. I took a sabbatical from corporate and gave Him my whole “Yes!”. It was in that quiet place that I realized God didn’t need me “to fix” the problem of poverty. He wasn’t asking me to sacrifice everything in pursuit of an impossible task; He was inviting me to take a small step of faith and come along with Him to witness a great outpouring of His love. What a gift it is to work for God!

I wish I had all the answers, but here’s what I know with certainty: Blooms & Root will be a garden for the soul — a safe, nurturing place where children encounter God’s presence and He rewrites their future. A future where the chains of generational poverty are broken, and they are set free to bloom in extraordinary ways, their lives firmly established in the love of God.
